Edinburgh's Garden District (Murray Estates)
HolderPlanning is the lead consultant on the Garden District, which is a visionary sustainable development for the expansion of the City. It is located to the west of the City, close to Edinburgh Park and with excellent links to the road network and major public transport links.
The Masterplan for the 650 acre site has been shaped by community consultation, the collaboration of renowned experts in the fields of development and architecture, respect for the environment, and adherence to Scottish planning policy for sustainable development. It will provide:

Three new villages containing a total of 6,000 new homes, 25% of which will be defined as "affordable" by the Council.
-
A possible new regional stadium and a sports hub to encourage active participation in a range of sports.
-
Proximity to jobs and the City.

-
The building of new schools and community facilities.

The Downing Group have recently acquired the RHSC from the NHS and have instructed HolderPlanning to manage the public consultation process and submission of a detailed planning application. The emerging proposals comprise residential development and student accommodation and potentially other uses, subject to public consultation. The Sick Kids Hospital has an iconic status in the City, and now that its original function has come to an end, the challenge will be to redevelop it in a manner which is sensitive to the important legacy that it leaves behind. This will mean securing the retention and renovation of Listed Buildings and ensuring that any new development is appropriate to the local character of the area. HolderPlanning is working closely with the local community to ensure that all views are properly taken into account.
